PepsiCo announced early last month that it appointed Xie Chang’an as CEO for Greater China. This is the latest case of a Fortune 500 company adjusting its business structure in China, to appoint a local manager as top management so far this year. At the same time, it also makes Xie Chang’an one of the most influential female leaders in the industry.

Xie Chang’an pointed out to Foodinc that PepsiCo has two major needs in the new development stage: the first is to accelerate the growth of its business in Greater China, and the second is to accelerate the iteration of organizational capabilities and deepen the overall talent reserve. On the one hand, China is an important business growth engine for PepsiCo in the international market; on the other hand, China also exports some core competencies to PepsiCo's global market, including digital transformation, she said.

Xie Chang’an believes that at present, PepsiCo faces three major opportunities for growth in China: 1) the increase in per capita consumption; 2) the growth opportunity of "advantage building"; and 3) the growth opportunity on the new track, including the opportunity of emerging channels. In order to "create conditions for high growth", PepsiCo plans to accelerate the digital transformation of full links in China, as well as accelerate local research and development and product innovation.
