Friesland confirmed to Foodinc the news that Yili would acquire Friesland's only infant milk powder factory in China. The factory is responsible for the production of "Mom and Children" series of baby formula.

According to Friesland, its professional nutrition business will center on the innovation and digital improvement of the Friso brand and super high-end products. Meanwhile, the two major sectors in China, including the professional dairy products business mainly serving catering customers and the ingredients business providing products and services to large and medium-sized dairy enterprises, will be further explored in the Chinese market.

Regarding Yili's acquisition intention, an industry senior analyzed that the company's infant milk powder has developed rapidly and exceeded 10 billion yuan in size, and acquisition would be a better choice if it needs to quickly match the production capacity with the formula quota. "It will take several years for China to go through all procedures from factory declaration to formula registration for building a new milk powder factory".

According to the senior management of Yili, the company will continue to increase the investment in infant milk powder in 2022 and seize the opportunity of the decline in the share of some foreign capital and small brands, and execution of birth incentive policies.
